Which Members of Congress Own xAI?
xAI is Elon Musk’s artificial-intelligence company, the maker of Grok, and in 2025 it absorbed X (formerly Twitter). It is private— no ticker, no exchange listing — so ordinary investors can’t buy it. That makes a disclosed Congressional stake worth a look. Here is who has one, straight from their STOCK Act filings.
| Member | Type | Amount | Disclosed trade date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lisa McClain House · MI | buy | $100,001 - $250,000 | Dec 15 |
How do you even buy a private company?
Generally, you don’t, at least not directly. Shares in a private company like xAI aren’t listed on any exchange; they change hands through secondary markets, employee sales, or pooled vehicles such as pre-IPO funds and SPVs that hold private stock. A disclosure of “xAI” usually reflects one of those routes, which is exactly why it is so rare to see in Congressional filings.
The same holder also owns SpaceX
xAI isn’t the only Musk company that turns up in these filings. The member who disclosed xAI here has also disclosed a stake in SpaceX — one investor building exposure across Musk’s private empire. SpaceX has since gone public as SPCX; xAI has not.
Why there’s no Coldpine score on it
Coldpine scores every disclosed trade for signal strength and measures each purchase against the S&P over the following 90 days. That needs a public ticker and a market price. A private holding like xAI has neither, so it shows up in the member’s disclosures but carries no signal score. It’s a notable holding, not a tradable signal. See how the scoring works.
